For schools
School counselling in Northumberland
I provide a range of services to support schools to meet the individual needs of pupils, to deliver targeted interventions and staff training.
You know the children in your school who are struggling. The ones who can't settle, who lash out, who go quiet. The ones your pastoral team are worried about but there's a long wait for CAMHS. What do you do in the meantime?
I provide school counselling services across Northumberland. Individual pupil support, targeted group sessions, and training for support staff. My 10 years as a Specialist Behaviour Support Worker for Northumberland County Council means I understand how schools work from the inside. The pressures on your team, the constraints on time, and the importance of fitting support around the school day.
Individual Support for Pupils
Psychotherapeutic counselling can support children and young people to develop healthy coping strategies, regulate their emotions and make positive behaviour choices.
Weekly sessions in a quiet space within the school. Children are referred with parental consent. Some prefer to talk, others respond better to play therapy or creative activities. I follow the child's lead. I work closely with your pastoral team and provide feedback to parents at agreed intervals. Whether it's child anxiety, behaviour that's escalating, self-esteem, family changes or grief, counselling gives them a space to be heard.
Group work
Small group work, or whole class work on topics such as mental health, growth mindset, body image, friendship, bullying, understanding a diagnosis, any bespoke requests can be considered and tailored to meet the needs of your school.
I design and deliver small group programmes and whole-class sessions on topics like emotional literacy, growth mindset, friendship, managing anger, bullying, body image, and understanding a diagnosis. Sessions can be tailored to your school's needs and priorities.
Training for support staff
Training for school support staff can be provided to model behaviour support strategies, delivering specific interventions, building confidence and up skilling school support staff.
I provide practical training for teaching assistants and support staff on topics including de-escalation strategies, supporting anxious children, recognising signs of self-harm, and building emotionally safe classrooms. Training can be delivered as twilight sessions, INSET days, or ongoing CPD.
